Peidmont is located in northwest Wyoming and was established in 1867 to provide railroad ties for the Union Pacific Railroad. A year later more men were needed to lay track on the prepared roadbed. More and more families moved into Peidmont. In 1877 kilns to produce charcoal were built. The Union Pacific Railroad Company used the charcoal as fuel for the passenger cars.
By 1910, the Union Pacific Railroad began digging the Aspen tunnel through Aspen mountain. The railroad was rerouted from LeRoy to the tunnel, missing Piedmont by several miles. Piedmont was stranded, and its demise began.
Today, Peidmont lies on private property with no trespassing signs. A dozen, some of them intact, buildings remain with three, out of originally four, charcoal kilns still standing. Uphill the cemetery is still found.
